McCormick Track and Field

Expectations

General Expectations

  • Student athletes are expected to be role models on and off the track
  • Student athletes’ conduct should reflect the pride they have in their school, their team and themselves always.
  • A student athlete that is a part of the Warrior Track Program will be a better student, a better athlete, and a better person for having been part of our program.

Practice

  • Attendance is mandatory. Be prepared to practice every day at the appropriate time in the appropriate clothing. Practice is designed to improve each athlete’s fundamental skills and prepare them.
  • Athletes should come to all practices prepared to give 100%.
  • Athletes are not permitted to wear jewelry at practice as well as when participating in meets (apart from a runner’s watch for long distance).
  • Athletes should always speak positively of all teammates and coaches.

Schedule

  • Practice schedules will be determined by each individual coach for their respective events.
  • Please talk with the coach to better understand the plan for the day and week.

Afternoon pickup

  • Please be on time to pick up your athlete at the conclusion of practice. All athletes are to be picked up in the front of the building. Practice will conclude at 4:30

Absences

  • Attendance at all practices and meets is very important. If you miss school or must leave because you are sick, you must notify your coach. We plan practice based on the number of athletes in attendance.

Meet Day

  • Schedule – A meet schedule is included in this packet.
  • Absences – Athletes need to notify their coach if they are absent on meet days.
  • Transportation
    • Athletes must ride the bus to every track meet.
    • Parents must sign their athlete out at the conclusion of events or at the end of the meet in they are not riding the bus home.
    • Parents may complete a transportation form in the Main Office if athletes are riding with someone other than a parent or guardian.
  • Food
    • Athletes should bring food from home. We suggest peanut butter sandwiches, granola bars, raisins, nuts, or fruit. These are smart choices.
    • Please drink plenty of fluids.

Parent Expectations

  • As coaches we understand that concerns may arise throughout the season. If your son or daughter has an issue regarding anything pertaining to the team, please have them follow this order:
    • Athlete meets with respective coach
    • Athlete meets with respective coach and head coach
    • Athlete and parent meet with respective coach and head coach
    • Athlete and parent meet with head coach and school administration

Other expectations

  • Keep the locker room and athletic space clean and picked up
  • All athletes are expected to sit with their team in the designated area (camp) during the meet.

Rule Infractions

  • Consequences will be determined by the coach and if needed school administration depending upon the severity and infraction.

We look forward to a successful track and field season. Should you have any questions, please contact your athlete’s coach or the head coach. Thank you in advance for allowing us the opportunity to coach your athlete and making our track season a successful one.
